This makes it easy to keep Jesus the focus of Christmas

Here’s a simple 2 minute Bible reading you can share and discuss with the kids. If you have older children – or extraordinarily patient young ones – and want to read/discuss a more complete version I’ll give the passages at the end.

Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!

Luke 2:4-18
Mary and Joseph traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem. And while they were there she gave birth to Jesus. She wrapped him snugly and laid him in a manger, because there was no other place for them to stay.

That night there were shepherds guarding their sheep in the fields nearby. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. The shepherds were terrified, but the angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him because you will find a baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of other angels all praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

When the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds said, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished.

The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

Matthew 2:1-11
About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!

They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Galatians 4:4-5
When the time was right, God sent his Son, born of a woman, to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.
